AARP

AARP is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to addressing the needs and interests of persons 50 and older. Founded in 1958 by retired California educator, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, AARP (formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons) today represents more than 35 million members. About half of the members are working, either full or part-time, while the others are retired.

AARP offers a wide range of services to members including:

  • Medicare supplement, long-term care, automobile/homeowners and life insurance, and member discounts and savings on prescription drugs, eye-health services and eye wear products.
  • Programs that help members with situations ranging from finding a nursing home, to selecting a college, to providing easy access to attorneys at reduced fees.
  • Discounts on hotels and motels, auto rental, airlines, cruise lines, vacation packages, entertainment products and consumer goods.
