Doctor Leaves the Network

If you participate in a medical plan that requires you to use participating providers to receive the In-Network level of benefits and your doctor or other health care provider leaves the network, you have two options:

  1. You may continue to see the provider and be reimbursed at the Out-of-Network benefit level,
  2. or

  3. You may change to a doctor or hospital that participates in your carrier's network and receive benefits at the In-Network benefit level. For a listing of the network providers, visit your carrier's web site or call their toll-free number listed on your medical ID card.

You can change your medical option only at open enrollment or with a qualifying event as defined by the IRS. Your doctor leaving the network is not considered a qualifying event by the IRS.
